Everybody can have one good idea, one kiss of the muse, one lucky stroke of inspiration. But to produce good, consistent work over the span of a whole career takes something else. It takes a habit of showing up and doing the work.

It takes a writing habit.

You have to look at comedy writing a little bit like searching for gold nuggets in a stream: Some days you won’t find a thing, others you will find a little nugget that will pay this days lunch and on some days you will find so much it will pay your next three months’ rent.

But the thing is: You can’t choose when and where you will find what. You have to show up and look for it everyday!
