The Topic
LET’S DEFINE: Topic
A topic is the subject matter one wants to discuss.
Now the thing is, depending on what you decided on as a Topic, it’s either huge, very small or anything in between. And it can lead us to one joke, several jokes or no joke. No joke. (But don’t worry, that is just part of the process and with experience and training will happen to you less and less. Remember the Growth Mindset?)
An important thing to note here is this: A topic on it’s own is neither funny nor interesting. What is essential is you and your view on the topic. But you can decide on that later in the process.
LET’S DEFINE: Subtopics
A subtopic is simply a part of your original topic which you pay special attention to in the form of putting it through the same steps of the “How to get Ideas” - process.
Let’s say your original topic is “moving out”.
A subtopic could be your experience with the moving company. Or your issues with being a smalltime hoarder. Or hitting up friends helping you to move.
Get the idea?
Great!
